Dr. Allen spoke with us about the current upheaval in our political lives and how greater economic equality is prerequisite to fuller and more equal citizen participation.
Dr. Allen served as co-chair of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences Commission on the Practice of Democratic Citizenship. Their June 2020 report Our Common Purpose: Reinventing American Democracy for the 21st Century included recommendations "to help the nation emerge as a more resilient democracy." She also writes for the Washington Post and the Atlantic.
